Trumony Adds a Stamped Finned Water Cooling Plate to Its IGBT Thermal Line-Up
Trumony Aluminum Limited has added a new liquid cooling component to its thermal management range: a 3003 stamped finned aluminum water cooling plate measuring 500 x 350 x 12 mm, developed for IGBT and silicon carbide power module cooling. The part, model TR-WCP-500350-12F, combines a stamped pin-fin field with a stamped base channel and is sealed in a single vacuum brazing cycle, giving power electronics designers a sealed one-piece cold plate without a gasket stack.

What the New Cold Plate Offers
The design target was straightforward: remove a high heat flux from a small IGBT footprint at a modest coolant flow. Instead of a simple serpentine channel, coolant passes through a dense array of stamped pins and straight fins. This raises the wetted area and breaks up the boundary layer across the module footprint, which improves heat pickup per litre of coolant and keeps pressure drop inside a manageable budget.
Measured thermal resistance is 0.02 C/W at 6 L/min using a 50/50 glycol-water mix. Because the fin field and the base channel are stamped into the two halves and brazed in one cycle, the internal geometry adds no extra assembly steps compared with a plain plate.

Key Features
- Stamped pin-fin field for a large wetted area at low coolant flow rates
- 0.02 C/W thermal resistance measured at 6 L/min with 50/50 glycol-water
- Brazed single body with no gasket, no screw stack and no O-ring sealing interface
- Nickel plating option for corrosion inhibitor packages and brazed-aluminum protection
- Adjustable fin density - pin diameter, height and pitch can be tuned to the pressure-drop budget

Why the Stamping and Brazing Route Matters
The plate is formed from two stamped aluminum halves whose channel geometry is embossed directly into the sheet, then joined in a single vacuum brazing cycle. Compared with machined or extruded-tube cold plates, the stamped and brazed route yields a lighter part, a fully sealed one-piece body without secondary welding seams, and a channel layout that can be redesigned without new heavy tooling. Vacuum brazing also removes the flux residue and oxidation that shorten the service life of a liquid circuit. Every plate is pressure tested and helium leak tested before packing.
Surface Treatment Options
A cooling plate inside a battery pack, inverter housing or charger enclosure has to do more than look clean. Available finishes include anodizing in clear, black or hard coat, powder coating, chromate conversion coating, nickel plating, electrophoresis and sand blasting. Anodizing and chromate conversion are typically selected for dielectric stand-off against live busbars, powder coating suits plates exposed to road spray, and nickel plating is specified where a glycol-water loop uses a corrosion inhibitor package.
Customization and Engineering Support
The cold plate is fully customizable. Typical engineering changes cover overall length and width, plate thickness, channel pattern and width, inlet and outlet position and thread, connector type, mounting hole pattern, pedestal or fin geometry on the contact face, and final surface finish. Customers can send a 2D drawing or 3D model; the engineering team confirms brazing feasibility, tooling cost and sample lead time before production begins.
Applications
The part is intended for IGBT and silicon carbide power module cooling in traction inverters, onboard chargers, DC-DC converters and welding power supplies, where heat has to be drawn out of a compact footprint at a modest coolant flow rate.
Quality Control, Supply and Ordering
Incoming aluminum sheet is verified for alloy and temper, stamped halves are checked against the drawing, and each brazed plate goes through dimensional inspection, internal pressure hold, helium leak detection and a flow and pressure-drop check. Finished parts ship in export-grade plywood cases with shock-proof foam and anti-rust film. Minimum order quantity is 10 pieces, supply capacity is 20,000 pieces per month, and payment terms include T/T, L/C, PayPal and Western Union. Tooling and samples typically take 15 to 20 days, with production running 25 to 30 days.
Quotations, drawings and samples are available on request. Sharing the cooling load, flow rate and available envelope allows the team to propose a suitable channel design and surface treatment.
